Well, it has been awhile since i last posted...
I got my whole big kit and wow have i ever enjoyed it...
Especially the success series... My kids are even watching them with me!!!
It has been way cold for the last few weeks so i have been unable to play with horses... which is really difficult considering i got all this new info...
But this past friday i got to spend the afternoon with the horses...
I went out after watching Attracting Horses and used that to catch my mare... It worked really well... though they always come as soon as they see me... might have something to do with the treats...
Anyway, what i wanted to say today is that i was very impressed with my mare Blondie... She came rite away and i groomed everyone... then got her haltered whih she gave me her head.... then we played the friendly game with the carrot stick and did the helicopter she perked her ears but remained in the same spot... we then went through all the games and considering we haven't played them in a long long time she did super well... she is a very sensitive mare... i do definently need to work on my porcupine game... We even did the touch it 3x and then we did the figure eight a few times... and she did really well although i do need to realize when it is time to break and do somethin different... i have sooo much to learn part of me just wants to skip ahead ... or at least some good weather so we could play at least a few days a week...
Bri played with cassie... caught her herself.. needed a lil help with the haltering... lead her around and then played lots of friendly game with her and the carrot stick... they did great... But it is very late and i gotta get up early so later!

My own lil christmas!!!
WEll last night i got my starter kit from the Parelli Savvy Club I got back to the car and was sooooo excitd my kids kept sayin what did you get... We went out for supper and took it all out of the box and wow... I am sooooo incredibly excited to really get going on this... I got one dvd with my pack and another aside from it.. and I just about finished them both.... so needless to say I am a little tired this morning... But I thought they were just fantastic... I also got three journals... So I am not sure if I wanna share with the kids as they go through their journey... The kids are learning all this and watcing it all with me it is great that we can share this all together...Anyways aside from that... I have missed the last two evenings to play with the horses but over the weekend we did play lots... Brianna has really been bugging to not only watch she wants to participate so I reluctently gave her a parelli halter and 12' rope and lher and I went out to catch horses... I have kinda forgotten how the catching game works... so we kinda just went out there and did some approach and retreat until they were ok with us... So I got my mare Blondie and had my son hold her as I 'coached' my daughter to catch her horse Cassie...I showed her how to do the friendly game with the halter and then halter her parelli style... She was grinin ear to ear... so then as my son ran back to get our brushes I allowed her to lead her around a litlle and just get comfortable... i was a little shocked to see that Cassie was completly relaxed... So maybe I need to relax a little.... Cassie has been to a level one 5 day course with Don Halladay in March of 2004... so she does need a little refreshing... She did very well with the kids brushing her and Bri cleaned her hoofs... My camera battery died so I didn't get any pics... Blondie did so well i was sooo impressed she didn't spook... very curious and a little cautious... but i took her over to the swing set/jungle thinge and we played the squeeze game under the swinging monkey bars that had a rope swagged between them... and i took her through/between two actual swingsthat were no more tha six inches apart... she did super... she remembered all the games even picking up the feet from the same side... so that went well although our porcupine game will need alot of work... Now i need a confined area(round pen or arena) to start riding in... not sure what i am gonna do there... i have electrical fencing but the snow is already on the ground and i don't know if that is a good idea and a steal one may be costly! This weekend is gonna be alittle busy but I really hope I get to go play again! I sooooo love my horses!!!!

First few trys
Well, I have been playing as much friendly game with them as possible with the halter and rope in hand. I lost my stuff in the fire and so I have been watching you tube and trying to remember! I know the first game is friendly and then porcupine, then driving, then yo-yo, then circling, then sideways, then squeeze. I think! So it is very obviouse I need to repurchase my stuff. Although I am a little confused as to weither I need to purchase the second addition to level one or if i should purchase the entire patterns kit which is on sale for a great deal rite now....
Anyway, I went out yesturday and took Leo out of the pen to play some more friendaly game with the carrot stick and savvy string and as usuall no cares just stood there the entire time.
so then I sitched out for Blondie. The kids were driving their quad around and it was starting to get dark so she was pretty worried. So i just brushed her and walked her around a bit and then brought her back. By then my time was up and had to head back to town.
Today, they all came to the fence and as soon as I got their with the halter they all took of as Cassie is our alpha mare. So I tried to play the catching game and it was very obviouse that I need to touch up on that again. Finally they came to the fence and I took Leo first as he is always so eager for attention. We did the same again and he once again did great. I got a little louder with the carrot stick and savvy string. I also put my shitzu Kia on his back and that didn't fiz him either although my pup was shaen a bit. I then switched out for Cassie, brought her out and let Brianna brush her and give her oats and just hang with her a bit and then also aloud her to bring her back down to the pasture as I watched. I am so excited to get parelling with my kids. Then I took Blondie out. As the kids were already done with the quad we walked up no problems. We brushed and played some friendly games and she did super. I took some pics and the first two flashes she jumped a little but didn't take of like yesturday! I wish I had a little more time with them and that they were in my back yard. But am still excited. Then it was time to go as we had the neighbour boy with us and he had to be back. Can't wait till the weekend... it is suppose to be nice all weekend... and as the kids have no school monday I am hoping to take it off as well!

Getting back into Parelli

Well, after a long time away I have decided to persue my first love again. I began last week making it a priority to see my horses every day. So after the kids get home from school we head out there. They have not seen us alot but always meet us at the gate... I started with getting myself more comfortable with them. I took some of my parelli stuff out of the barn and took it home to wash it up and clean it up.
I have three horses rite now and considering a fourth.
Cassie has been with me the longest, she is a sorrel14'2 quarter horse cross mare who is around 15 years old. I got her from a horse trader. She was great. We rode her in parades around the rodeo grounds... my daughter even rode her there and never had a problem. Since she has gotten a little grumpy ole age maybe. So I really work with her as my 10 yr old Daughter, Brianna considers Cassie her mare. Brianna also wants to do Parelli as she is a horse lover like her mom!
Leo was purchased as a yearling at an auction. I saw him come into the ring and totally fell in love with this little fella. He was born a little late in the year and was incredibly small... but something about him made me wanna take him home. So he is a beautiful bay with two rear white socks and has grown to be 15'2 and looks kinda like a frieght train(maybe a little fat). He is a little on the green side. He is a big puppy. I have put some time on him and he has never spooked the only problem I have is getting him to go... he is soo layed back. He has such personality. My son Byron who is 8 has called leo his horse since he was just a little guy. Unfortantly Leo is not trained enough yet for him to ride but hopefully some day soon. He really wants to ride. That is one of the reason we are considering purchasing a little 12'2 pony who has some level one in Parelli.
Blondie(who's name i think we should change) is a beautiful 15'2 palomino mare who has completly stolen my heart. I bought her from southern Alberta. She was a barrel racing at the time which I thought I might get into... So she seemed a little much for me to begin with. And I still need to improve my riding and confidence. She is a little flight at first but also seems to need her trust and confidence built as well. some have told me to sell her, but she has become a part of my family not just a horse. So we will see, I am very excited for this journey and really wish we were comming into summer not winter... But there is an arena that was just finished being built just 8 miles or so from were my horses are at. So i may need to purchase a trailer. But before I start that I would like to get a little more comfortable with her as well as her a little more trusting of me!
